Safety in the work we do.
Safe, professional delivery starts with clear requirements. Here we set out how SBE works and the competence, inspection and documentation requirements that need to be defined for your assignment.
Health & safety
Start with the task.
SBE’s safety work includes risk assessment before and during an assignment, together with coordination with other parties. This is particularly relevant to erection work, work at height, lifting and materials handling on an active construction site.
Our approach centres on competent delivery and clear communication with the client about planning, health and safety, and changes in working conditions.
Fall risks during erection and work at height
Scaffold erection, shoring and other work at height require suitable access, protective measures and coordination with neighbouring activities.
Review the choice of protection, the use and inspection of fall-protection equipment, and rescue arrangements against site risks and instructions for the assignment.
Lifting operations and materials handling
Lifting and moving materials need to be planned around the work area, other trades and the equipment to be used.
Clarify responsibilities for lifting, exclusion zones and the requirements for lifting accessories, instructions and the competence of the people involved.
Incidents, accidents and emergency response
The people concerned need to know the site’s alarm procedures, emergency contacts and instructions for accidents, serious incidents or fire.
Agree how events are reported, who is responsible for actions and how information is communicated within the project organisation.
Risk assessment & work preparation
Before, during and after the assignment.
Task planning and preparation means reviewing the work activities, risks, site conditions and coordination before delivery. As construction progresses, inspections and follow-up need to reflect changes in the work.
Before the assignment
Assess risks. Prepare the work.
SBE carries out risk assessment before an assignment and work preparation for site operations. Tasks, coordination and working conditions need to be clear before work begins.
Agree: project documents, supervision, competence and documentation requirements.
During construction
Inspect and address non-conformities.
Self-inspections and non-conformity management are part of how SBE works. Inspections reflect the assignment’s quality requirements. Changed conditions, risks and obstacles need to be raised with the relevant site supervision and the client.
Agree: inspection points, responsibility for actions and how decisions and results are reported.
After completion
Follow up and improve.
SBE follows up completed assignments and continually updates its procedures. The scope of final reviews, document handover and any outstanding actions needs to be agreed for the assignment.
Agree: handover records, responsibilities and feedback arrangements.
The content of work preparation, responsible supervision and documentation requirements are reviewed against the scope of the assignment and conditions on site.
Protective equipment & people
Protection and competence for the task.
Personal protective equipment and site safety rules need to address the risks involved. Requirements such as helmets, safety footwear, high-visibility clothing and fall protection are reviewed for the work activities.
For work at height, the fall-protection equipment to be used, responsibility for its inspection and the applicable instructions need to be clear. Trade experience, induction and equipment need to match the task.
All construction workers have ID06.
ID06 provides site identification. Relevant training and trade competence are assessed separately for the task.
Training & qualifications
Training requirements tied to the work.
Relevant training, trade knowledge and any specific qualifications need to be reviewed for the people assigned to the work. This applies, for example, to scaffold erection, lifting and work at height.
- The task
- What knowledge, instructions and training does the activity require?
- The people involved
- What training, trade qualification or other competence records does the client need?
- Project requirements
- Which validity periods, inductions and site-specific requirements need to be included in the planning?
Site induction, instructions and any additional training requirements are considered when discussing workforce resources and delivery. The people involved need to understand the task, site safety rules and who to contact if conditions change.
Quality assurance on site
Clear requirements. Controlled delivery.
Quality concerns both the result and the conditions needed to carry out the work correctly. SBE uses self-inspections and non-conformity management during construction. The assignment’s requirements need to translate into relevant tasks and inspection points.
- Project documents & quality requirements
- Current documents, workmanship requirements and interfaces with other contractors need to be understood. These requirements form the basis of the work.
- Inspections during construction
- Self-inspections are part of how SBE works. The tasks and results to be inspected, when inspections take place and what is recorded are defined around the assignment’s requirements.
- Competent delivery
- Trade competence, supervision and instructions need to match the task. Any specific training and qualification requirements are reviewed for the people concerned.
- Planning & clear communication
- A shared understanding of scope and programme supports delivery. Changed conditions and non-conformities need to be raised with the client at an early stage.
Records, inspections & non-conformities
Records that reflect the work.
Task planning and preparation, self-inspections and non-conformity management are part of how SBE works. We follow up completed assignments and continually update our procedures.
The documents to be used and handed over need to be clearly defined for the assignment. This includes records of safety matters, inspections, events and actions.
Information for your assessment- Work preparation & safety information
- Work preparation addresses the tasks, risks and conditions for delivery. Its scope, documentation and coordination with other site activities are defined for the assignment.
- Self-inspections during construction
- Inspection points and records need to reflect the activity’s quality requirements. The results and information to be reported are determined by the client’s requirements and the agreed scope.
- Non-conformities & corrective actions
- SBE applies procedures for non-conformity management. The departure from the requirements, who decides on corrective actions and how the work and reporting are checked need to be clear. Reporting arrangements and the records required by the client are agreed for the assignment.
- Follow-up & evaluation
- SBE follows up completed assignments and continually updates its procedures. Arrangements for evaluation, document handover and outstanding matters are agreed for the assignment.
Environmental considerations on site
Environmental requirements in the works.
The project’s environmental requirements and contractual obligations need to be applied to the work SBE will carry out. Responsibilities for materials, waste, handling and follow-up are reviewed against site conditions.
- Materials & waste
- Review materials handling, storage, waste and site rules for sorting and disposal.
- Products & handling
- Clarify any product requirements and the information or handling instructions required by the project.
- Transport & coordination
- Include deliveries, transport and local environmental requirements in planning the assignment.
